Maximum Jazz New Release: Brad Turner Quartet

Vancouver, B.C., Monday, October 29, 2007 – Maximum Jazz and EMI Music Canada are proud to announce the release of "Small Wonder" the highly anticipated new recording by the Brad Turner Quartet.

Following two live recordings Small Wonder, the quartet's fifth release is a return to the recording studio environment; where past recordings may have reflected the more improvisational group concept that the quartet has become known for, Small Wonder revisits the structured realm of specifically composed pieces by Brad with each band member in mind. “You can’t be Serious” was written for Bruno, “70 Mile” for André, and “Punchy” for Dylan, and the aptly titled "Small Wonder" was written for Brad's two young boys.

Brad states: "that playing music with these fellows' remains as fresh and exciting for me as it ever has, and I think this recording reflects that. After fourteen years together, we are still exploring new ways to communicate our musical ideas as a band, and as individuals, I look forward to at least fourteen more!"

Available in-stores across Canada on October 30, 2007 via the Maximum Jazz label and EMI Music, Small Wonder will also be available for digital download exclusively at mymaxcast.com/bradtuner followed all other major e-tailers later this fall.

Brad Turner's phenomenal talents as a trumpeter, pianist, drummer and composer make him one of Canada´s most-in-demand musicians; performing and/or recording with such artists as Joe Lovano, Kenny Wheeler, Michael Moore, Reneé Rosnes, Achim Kaufmann, John Scofield, Ingrid Jensen, Dylan van der Schyff, Mike Murley, Mark Helias, Charles McPherson and Gary Bartz. Brad's groups have opened for McCoy Tyner, Roy Haynes, Wayne Shorter, Clarke Terry and Diana Krall.

As a leader, Brad has released five albums:

• 2005 Brad Tuner Quartet What Is
(winner of “Best Jazz Album” at the 2006 Western Canadian Music Awards)
• 2004 Brad Turner Trio Question The Answer
(a 2005 Canadian Urban Music Award and a 2006 Canadian Indie Music Award nominee)
• 1999 Brad Turner Quartet Live At The Cellar
(featuring Seamus Blake)
• 1998 Brad Turner Quartet There and Back

Other artistic awards include multiple National Jazz Awards for Jazz Trumpeter of the Year (1999), Jazz Composer of the Year (2000 & 2002) and Musician of the Year (2005). In 2006 Brad was awarded the coveted Canada Council Victor Lynch-Staunton Prize for excellence in musical achievement.

In addition recognizing his work as the founder of the internationally acclaimed electric jazz group Metalwood, Brad took home Juno Awards for Best Contemporary Jazz Album in 1997 and again in 1998.
